What is WAG and how do I get into (or out of) the Weidiverse?
What is WAG and how do I get into (or out of) the Weidiverse?
The inspiration for WAG comes from a group of college friends who have been getting together periodically for the past 20+ years to enjoy a good DC or Marvel campaign -- or even a good Cthulhu run, on occasion. Since the better part of the group lives in the Indianapolis area, it was only natural that, after a few GenCon gatherings, one of the group’s popular GMs decided to take up the creative mantle and fill some gaps in the GenCon program. We're talking serious RPGs here, folks. The kind that value brains as well as brawn. Lo and behold, WAG was born!
What does WAG stand for? Well, it could be “Wabash Alum Gamers.” But that would limit it to a bunch of guys since Wabash College is an all-male school.
WAG could refer to “Weed and Gal” since Ryan (aka “Weed”) and his wife, Jeni, put pen to paper to get the first slate of WAG games on the GenCon roster. Again, though, that would leave out a great group of friends who have been key players in many of the games. Not to mention all the new gamer friends added to the circle each summer!
So ... let’s just say WAG means many things ... including a Welcome All Gamers invite to join us for our next Origins or GenCon round up. In the meantime, stop by our FB page regularly to see our ideas take shape, give your input, and talk about the serious fun of strategic roleplaying.
The Weidiverse is the elaborate story world of its master GM. Once you enter the Weidiverse, be prepared to sing and sleuth your heart out. Many WAG events are inspired by popular culture -- from movies to musicals to sitcoms and cartoons. You'll know you're in the Weidiverse when you earn karma for singing an appropriate show tune with revamped lyrics. Bring your brain, too. You'll have to put some thought into your adventures. Fierce fun. That's what we're all about.
